Farm Crawl 2007 as a PFI Field Day

Sunday, October 7th from 11:00 am – 5:00pm

 

Six independent family farm operations, all within a six mile radius of each other in south-central Iowa, are jointly hosting open houses at each farm.  Enjoy a leisurely autumn day “crawling” from farm to farm.  

Come visit south Marion County/north Lucas County (one hour south of
Des Moines) to see each of our individual operations.  Tour the farms, visit the animals, meet the farmers, sample the goodies, opportunities to purchase locally grown & produced products, and lots of fun in the beautiful Iowa countryside!

The six farms include: Blue Gate Farm, Coyote Run Farm, Dan-D Farms, Pierce’s Pumpkin Patch, Reichert’s Diary Air and Schneider Orchards.

Blue Gate Farm (Jill Beebout & Sean Skeehan) – a Certified Naturally Grown, chemical-free produce farm with pastured poultry, honey bees and alfalfa servicing our CSA and DM farmers market.  Sample homemade preserves and honey, and tour the season extending high tunnel.  PFI member.

 

Coyote Run Farm (Matt Russell & Patrick Standley) – we are rebuilding a 110 acre farm to profitability through relational marketing and sustainable agriculture.  We grow and sell chemical-free produce & cut flowers, pasture poultry & eggs, hormone-free beef, hay, and mules.  Tour our work in progress as we reclaim grasslands, retrofit buildings, and develop markets.   PFI member.

 

Dan-D Farm (Dan & Jana Dennison) – 24 acre corn maze, petting zoo, hay rides, giant slide, tropical ice and pick-your-own pumpkins.

 

Pierce’s Pumpkin Patch (John & Joy Pierce) – thousands of different pumpkins, squashes, gourds, decorative corn and a shop full of Halloween celebration décor.

 

Reichert’s Dairy Air (Lois & Jack Reichert) – a goat dairy that just moved into their custom built milking barn and cheese-making building.  Sample some of the several varieties of delicious artisan cheeses and see the goat herd.

 

Schneider Orchard (Arnie & Jane Schneider) – fresh Iowa grown apples!  Pick your own as you stroll through the orchard or enjoy pre-packed Jonathans and Red & Yellow Delicious apples.

 

Admission is FREE onto all of the farms, some Dan-D Farm attractions extra.
